An auxiliary research department the functions of which include servicing information requirements and needs of the professional staff of the Institiute and of other academic and educational institutions of the nation, as well as carrying out on a contractual basis of a research on special orders of various organizations and agencies of Russia and the NIS. The functions of the Department also include publishing and pre-publication editorial work enabling the Institute to publish regularly under its own logo research papers and studies conducted by the Institute's professional staff. The Department is headed by Doctor of History, Professor Edward A. Ivanian. The Department is subdivided into two sectors - the Editorial and Publications Sector headed by Prof. Ivanian and the Information Sector headed by Ms. Valeria P. Popkova.
