SUMMARY
cover The book "The American Farming: The 21st Century" culminates Dr. Chernyakov's multi-year research of the American farming as an extraordinary phenomena and one of the most important components of the U.S. agribusiness sector. The book does not only present a detailed technical and economic review of American farming operations as a whole, but also provides a farm/enterprise-level assessment of individual agricultural companies that have insured the country's food security as well as leadership in world agricultural trade.

The book is composed of two parts. The first part is devoted to informal assessments of U.S. larger farms by their geographic location, major business activities, status, et cetera. The said companies were surveyed and described by the author during his travel to eighteen states of the United States in the year 2000.

The second part provides an up-to-date economic analysis of the American farming, including its problems and the ways of overcoming them. Special analysis is given to intensification fac-tors with respect to both crop production and the livestock industry. The author also explores in detail the economic mechanisms that are used for implementing various U.S. programs, and particularly the peculiar features of the new U.S. agricultural policy.

The book is intended for a wide range of agricultural specialists and researchers, as well as federal- and local-level administrators, and certainly will be interesting to all readers who are engaged in or related to the many subjects covered by the book.
